Construct: Escape the System is a sci-fi themed first person platformer that sees you trapped in a computer system, trying to escape. Explore the system and locate the 8 empowering 'ability orbs'. Find and download the 5 'player upgrades'. Seek out and extract the 16 'system core power orbs'. Do all this and maybe you can escape.
The first level from Construct: Escape the System is now available to play on Windows PC.

Is it possible to increase the speed of the sprint? And then too long distances, a long walk ... The game is bought.
Good fun. I really enjoyed the open world feel, simple but sic-fi graphics and ambient music. I wandered around the hub for a bit and it is a really huge room. I did not encounter any bugs, but there was one point where I was spawning on a fast moving platform and falling off after each respawn -- suggested fix: only respawn on last non-moving platform.
Other comments:
- some benefit to running on the ground level might be in order, maybe double sprint speed, but keep walk speed the same for when people want to look around
+ I found myself holding down shift a lot on the ground, this would help with preventing a possible pinky cramp
- for the spheres that fly you through the air, I expected to have to steer (and I thought I was doing a really good job of it the first time, then I tested it lol), having to steer inside of a large area could be a fun mechanic, that could lead to a section where you have to jump out of it at a certain point -- or you could just make the jump button leave the current version of the trail
- if there isn't a hang glider-like or double jump orb later in the game, those would be great fun
- controller support would be good
I am watching for updates. I'll be one of the first purchasers =)
Hi AetherRepublic, thanks for playing the demo and for your comments :D
I'm pleased to hear you thought the demo was fun :)
Yes, respawning after having been on a moving platform has been an issue for a while. Your suggested fix sounds good.
I agree I need to take another look at walk and sprint speeds. I'm also considering adding an option to the input options menu so that 'Left Shift' can be set to toggle sprint on/off. Then holding it down all the time would not be required.
Concerning the data splines, I had thought about a steer mechanic of sorts. A bit different from what you suggest: aiming perfectly forward along the spline/curve would increase your speed whilst aiming away would slow the player down. I didn't think that would work so well in the end. What you suggest however, having to steer to stay on the curve, this sounds very interesting. I think what I may do at this stage if I incorporate this idea is to have a new data spline type (visually different in some way). This new data spline type would work in the way you suggest :)
There are some additional player abilities that become unlocked in the full game. These upgrades are separate from the ability orb upgrades and actually change what the player is capable of. I don't want to spoil too much :) but I can say that a double jump is one of these upgrades. A hang glider ability orb sounds cool, my ability orbs are mostly locked down now, however I hope to make more CONSTRUCT games in the future with new ability orbs not seen in the first game. I can see an ability like that working very well and being lots of fun.
I had thought about adding controller support but I suppose I was waiting to see if there was a demand for it. I'll now be adding support for the Xbox 360 controller and I suppose also the Xbox One controller, I'll need to grab one of these though, currently gaming on PC and PS4 at the moment :)
Thanks again ;)
This looks so cool! What are your plans for the music of the game? Something futuristic or more like pressure ambience?
Good luck with it! :)
Hi Bibiki, thanks for your comment. I'm very glad you like the look of the game :)
So, for the music I have opted to use some really great music I found on the Unity Asset Store. I was looking for something very futuristic and also not too expensive as I am currently trying to save money where I can.
The music is by Imphenzia, here's a link to samples from the music pack on Imphenzia's youtube channel - Youtube.com
I've not used all the music available in the pack but have tried to use as much of it as possible throughout the game. I have also used some of the music for the 2 trailers released so far.
Thanks again :)
I like how the music feels. I think it fits really well with the game :)
As you can imagine, it would be better to have a composer or just have an original soundtrack of the game, so it can be so unique.
Anyway, I think that using that tracks would be far enough to have a good experience with the game.
Greetings :)
I agree, an original soundtrack would be better :)
I'm hoping that if I can make more CONSTRUCT games following this one then I might be able to either pay for some exclusive music from Imphenzia (so that there is musical continuity between the games) or maybe hire a composer to do a similar futuristic soundtrack :D
Thanks :)
