Blackwake is a multiplayer naval warfare game with team focused elements. It features destructible ships, first person combat, ship sailing, ship boarding, objective based game modes and potentially up to 100+ players (our goal is 300) per match.

Blackwake hopes to envision a fun, tactical and realistic naval warfare experience. The British, French, Spanish, Dutch and even the pirates fight it out in dominance in this frantic era of the late 18th century. The ships rock and sway in vary weathered conditions from crashing stormy seas to the dead silence in the fog of war. Intense broadside ship battles take place while pirates raid and loot helpless vessels in the Caribbean. Ship boarding is rampant while cutlasses clash and muskets and pistols billow with smoke. Is your ship and crew ready to fight and die for your king and country? Or are they ready to prey on the helpless for their own greed? 

Blackwake is an indie game being made by 2 developers. We hope to prove this game as a means of proof of concept and that we are capable in both programming/art to complete our project!

- Possibly Land/Sea simultaneous battles 
- Goal of up to 300 Players per match 
- Objective based game modes 
- Dedicated/Private servers 
- Something exciting that we will not reveal until press!

Some potential game mode ideas include: 
- Cat and mouse 
- Merchant interception 
- 6 squads of 10 fighting each other on schooners 

 We want to get the core main features solid before we focus on anything else. Don't expect the game to be done anytime soon, at a guesstimate we are looking at somewhere next year 2015.

Blackwake Devblog 4:

The new frigate type ship has been completed. Also a large number of awesome things have been programmed such as hitting each other with cannonballs. We added a lot of smaller things to make the game a little more polished. See more in the video.

personally, I would weigh it a bit before too quickly dismissing it. Hence the fact that if you did implement it; you could potentially introduce challenges to players (ie. purposely aiming for certain individuals on board to hinder the opposing crew) <--- dependent on how you want to handle in-game death.) --- just ball parking ideas.
