Blackwake is a multiplayer naval warfare game with team focused elements. It features destructible ships, first person combat, ship sailing, ship boarding, objective based game modes and potentially up to 100+ players (our goal is 300) per match.

Blackwake hopes to envision a fun, tactical and realistic naval warfare experience. The British, French, Spanish and even the pirates fight it out in dominance in this frantic era of the late 18th century. The ships rock and sway in vary weathered conditions from crashing stormy seas to the dead silence in the fog of war. Intense broadside ship battles take place while pirates raid and loot helpless vessels in the Caribbean. Ship boarding is rampant while cutlasses clash and muskets and pistols billow with smoke. Is your ship and crew ready to fight and die for your king and country? Or are they ready to prey on the helpless for their own greed?

Blackwake is an indie game being made by 2 developers. We hope to prove this game as a means of proof of concept and that we are capable in both programming/art to complete our project!

- Team ship sailing

- Intense melee and weapon combat
- Possibly Land/Sea simultaneous battles
- Goal of up to 300 Players per match
- Objective based game modes
- Dedicated/Private servers
- Something exciting that we will not reveal until press!

Some potential game mode ideas include:
- Cat and mouse
- Merchant interception
- 6 squads of 10 fighting each other on schooners

Let's first talk about what is NOT done. We have NOT started animations and we have NOT done any of the characters. Any kind of visual FX or things like the Ocean. THESE ARE PLACEHOLDER. There are a lot of placeholders. There are only 2 developers so there is a lot of work we have to do. These are the most commons things people keep mentioning. If something to you looks off, or bad then assume that we are already aware of this. Please stop telling us the obvious when we already mention it being ALPHA.

As for the game we still have a lot of work to do. We want to get the core main features solid before we focus on anything else. Don't expect the game to be done anytime soon, at a guesstimate we are looking at somewhere next year 2015.

It's been a little over 3 months since we have given an update. We took a break for a little while from the overwhelming work. We are now stuck back into it, to continuously work throughout the year and provide regular updates. So more things will be coming after this.

Here is a new test with Malakith Skadi's group playing to capture the naval fort off each other. It was a fun test with some funny moments in between. Attacking players were trying to bash the door down while defenders were shooting at them from atop the walls!

Remember the characters and animations are placeholder! A lot of the art still has to be done.
For more major news, we have decided to put land based combat as a lower priority now as the amount of work load is quite large already. So we will be focusing on refining and making the ship based gameplay very solid and enjoyable. With that said here is a progress image of a new ship we are constructing to go along side the Naval Cutter.

Watch us for more!

Thank you for the kind comment!
We still have a lot of work to do. As for cost most likely around the $15 mark.

How about different classes like: Gunner (loading/firing the cannons), Soldier (fighting on the deck), Navigator (navigating the ship), Sailor (idk, doing some other stuff), Medic (healing your comrades), Carpenter (repairing your ship), Captain (teamleader, has one or two special abilities)

Hey fgd,

We're not sure we want to restrict players and force them into roles. Although role playing those roles wouldn't be that difficult with a clan/organised group :)

personally, I would weigh it a bit before too quickly dismissing it. Hence the fact that if you did implement it; you could potentially introduce challenges to players (ie. purposely aiming for certain individuals on board to hinder the opposing crew) <--- dependent on how you want to handle in-game death.) --- just ball parking ideas.

@Feadern JS is a little easier to get into. It doesn't take that long to transfer to JS once you've learned C#. Maybe around a week or two
