Avolition is a 3D, arcade style, H&S, dungeon-crawling game for Windows, Linux and Mac.

It's designed to run not only on modern, high-end hardware, but also (or even mainly) on computers that are a few years old. It uses only the most important, basic techniques to render visually pleasing scenes without overstraining the hardware. These include:

  • Dynamic, per-pixel lighting
  • Gloss, glow and normal mapping
  • Dynamic soft shadows
  • Fullscreen bloom/glow filter
  • Antialiasing (multisample)

The player can select a character class and customize it using just 3 sliders. For example when selecting a spell-caster class, the player can balance between dealing high damage to a single target or lower damage but to multiple enemies at once. Each class has only 2 active skills, but each skill is unique - this is not just a mix of ranged and melee attacks with different visual effects that one might see in other games.

Use the Source

After some time I have decided to release the source code all models and resources of the game under the GNU GPL v3 license. This doesn't include the music, all the music still belongs to Matthew Pablo.

To run the game from source you will need the Panda3D SDK (1.8 or later)

Tools

Level Editor

Apart from the game code I'm also releasing a Level Editor. But don't expect too much from it, the editor is not made to create levels from scratch, it is only there to make a navigation mesh, add spawn waypoints and save the level in a fast binary file format (.bam). It has only these few functions and if that's not bad enough - it's also a pain to use.

The movement is awkward and the camera gets broken at times but the animations and all that are impressive! Also, I believe the enemies respawn and I don't think many people like respawning enemies. I like this and look forward to any updates that may or may not be released!

Looks really cool, but when I try to play the demo on Mac the game freezes on the startup configuration screen. I can't interact with any on the buttons or sliders, and have to force quit.
