An Octonaut Odyssey Windows, Mac game

Octo is a scientist, and is curious about everything. His rocky spacecraft takes him here and there throughout space, where the deepest mysteries can challenge his extraordinary intelligence.

Yet, Octo is no longer in the first flush of youth… And his eight tentacles aren’t as alert as they once were. To assist him in his old age, he travels surrounded by his loyal Octobots ; Robots of his design which help him to move and give him « superoctopusian » abilities.

His whole life is to take a new twist when, during a mission, Octo suddenly looses control of his ship, and crashes on an unknown planet…

The octopus survives, but doesn’t remember anything. Neither who he is, nor where he is and where he was going… Even worse : the violent impact scattered his octobots all around the galaxy. All but one. To go back to space, Octo is therefore going to need to explore this new, strange and colorful world, in order to find his dear robots that will be able to repair his space ship once they are gathered.

But what is this place? What trials and tribulations can our hero expect? Where are his Octobots? And what mission might have driven him around this bizarre planet?

Developed in C++ for PC, Mac and Linux, An Octonaut Odyssey is the result of a work done by a team of enthusiasts. The game is unique mainly because it was entirely designed based on a simple SFML library, from the physics engine to the music, including animations and sound design.

The different elements of the game are partly procedurally generated. The sceneries and the relief are the results of mathematical algorithms, that make of each and every planet, a unique and evolutive living place.

An Octonaut Odyssey has much evolved from the beginning. Originally a simple student project for the information-technology school « 42 », it became little by little a much more ambitious and personal project.
