Alien Arena is an open sourced game that combines a sci-fi atmosphere with the tournament style deathmatch of Q3A and UT2k4. Major graphical features such as GLSL per-pixel lighting, ragdoll physics, light blooms, real time lights and shadows, textured particles, shaders, and reflective water, create a colorful and immersive deathmatch atmosphere. The game also includes mutators, adjustable effects, bot skill settings, and fully configurable deathmatch, team deathmatch, CTF, All Out Assault, Team Core Assault, Cattle Prod, and Deathball games. The game features original artwork, with a dark, sinister atmosphere combined with an off-the-wall campiness, and trippy, techno type music. There are currently over 60 maps, loaded with weapons(each having an alternate firing mode) and powerups. Alien Arena has fast, smooth gameplay, & players can play online against one another or against the bots. Please post all support issues in the forums for the game.
A new version of Alien Arena will be released this spring. Find out what is inside...

It has been said that a picture is worth a thousand words. If that is true, then a video is worth much more. Since our last release, COR Entertainment has been grinding the gears to make the next release of Alien Arena something special. No aspect of the game has been untouched. Want new graphical effects? We added a ton of 'em! Want new levels? We've already added a half dozen new/revamped ones, and plan on some more before we are through. Tired of the same old player characters? We added a new one for the first time in two years(I should mention a great number of custom skins have been made available in recent weeks as well).
But what about the gameplay? Did we neglect it? Nope. C'mon, this is a major update of the game, we weren't going to forget about keeping things interesting! It has been since 2007 since a new weapon was introduced to Alien Arena, but that barrier has indeed been crossed. You'll learn more about the "Minderaser" in coming news posts. It is not like a normal weapon, and as far as I know, it's behavior in how it appears is pretty unique to the genre. We've also done work on our anti-lag code which has made a huge difference in how the game feels over the net, especially when playing Instagib modes. Bot AI has been improved again, this time around we have made some very signifigant improvements in how they play Capture The Flag mode.
I could go on for a while about the numerous updates, but we are still working really hard on even more cool stuff, so for now, I will leave with a little promotional video that shows some(not all) of what we have accomplished so far in this update. We expect a release to come out this Spring...
Nice video, Irritant. Just had to add, for any other Linux on PowerPC enthusiasts out there, thanks to one of those enthusiasts, we recently got the game working on that platform. For those wondering why the Linux version on Desura is not up-to-date, we will try to get that fixed soon.
You know, I completely forgot about the endian fixes, but I won't leave that out when we make the full release announcement. That's some pretty important work, IMO.
Btw, I was marvelling at some of the game/bot changes you've made over the years, some of it I hadn't actually run across yet until I was working on the bot CTF ai routines.
Outstanding news. This game has always been an absolute frantic blast ! I'm looking forward to changing gears and hitting it again !
Kinda reminds me of the Mars Attacks bubble gum cards when i was a kid. Looks kool.
I want to shoot lasers out of my laser face?
Having Alien Arena on Linux up to date with the Windows version would be awesome.
It is, just get it from Red.planetarena.org, or download it from MODdb.com, or use SVN.
