Accel Chroma is a futuristic racing game similar in style to WipEout and Audiosurf. The player must traverse the track as fast as possible, taking advantage of a colour-based boost system.

Our original goal was to build a game in a week. We achieved that, and here is what we made. There are still a couple of features missing from this which are being added as we speak!

Hi! I think I should introduce the project a little more in this post. We're a bunch of
students (35 of us) from the University of Bolton. We aimed to create the framework of a game in a week just after our exams and modules and we have achieved that. The video linked below is the footage of the build at the end of the week and we're all pretty proud of it. The colour mechanic is missing due to some issues on the final day but we’re adding it in as I type this.

What’s next for Accel Chroma?

Currently we’re setting out a plan to expand, bug test and improve the game over the next six weeks. We will be fully releasing the game around the end of July and it should include at least four tracks,
improved camera controls, more vehicles and be thoroughly bug tested!

Here are our latest videos!

Yeah we have a new build coming out soon which has the boost working, makes the whole game feel a lot faster. I think if I ask the programmers to tweak the speed again I'll have an angry mob chasing after me shouting 'stupid designers!'. We may use some visual trickery in newer tracks too to really get that speed element across.

the ship movement should be more smoothed out, it behaves too responsive. Also dont use that UT3 font ; )

Yeah were working on the movement, for a week build we were happy though! We are sorting out camera dampening soon which should smooth out the gameplay a lot more. The handling can be tweaked very easily in editor too, I'll get somebody to have a look at the turning curve we have set up! Oh and yeah were being cautious with the fonts currently, as we're quite tied to the University of Bolton with this project we need to very careful with using other peoples fonts etc. I may set an artist to make one or just use Arial ;)
