Depends on what is bottlenecking your current setup.

Yeah post specs, cos if you get a new gpu, you may have an issue with it working on an old mother board, so you may need to wait and upgrade more.

As an example, i wanted a new gpu, but the mother board was old and didnt support the new standard, so a new motherboard was needed, this also meant a new psu, cpu and ram.

The best graphic card is more than useless if you have an extremely weak processor vice versa.

I wish my new Windows 8.1 Dell Inspiron would play some of my older games.

I can play all of my older games from 2002 and older and I also have Windows 8.1. Why can't you?

I play older games on my Win 8.1 setup too. Unless the drivers don't support what they need any more, they should work fine.

Depends how bad one of them is. If the worst thing on your PC is the GPU then damn it Jim get a GPU pronto.

If it was only that simple, If his motherboard doesn't accept the newer cards, a new gpu might mean new cpu, new mother board, new ram, psu... etc.

If his current board is AGP based, well hes all out of luck getting a gpu from a shop.
Best of ensure you have the money to get all the upgrades you need at one time.
