Did anyone thought about this, when they implemented it?

A dev blog, articles usually consists of 500 words, sometimes 1000 words. Most of people use at most 4 images, and maybe 1 videos, who came with this idea? Did you guys asked for feedback?

Game page requires a minimum of 5 screenshots, a post 6? Do you guys see the logic here? I was wondering why the rest of the articles are full of media, but very few text... it looks unprofessional.

Lets try more:

1 review Eurogamer.net Eurogamer.net 2000 words, 3 images (sometimes people put a batch or a gallery at the end)

1 review PC Gamer Pcgamer.com around 2000 words 3 screenshots

1 Dev blog Battle Brothers (100k+ copies sold) Battlebrothersgame.com around 500 words (they usually use between 3 and 5). They used 5 when they presented a new feature, which is normal.

1 Dev blog post Empyriononline.com around 500 words (around 4)

Why are you forcing people to make their articles look weird and add extra when sometimes, the feature or the subject doesn't need it? 2-3 images should be the minimum, not 6. Now everybody, or most of the people are posting 2-3 images that intended to present the content they talk about, and then they make around 3-4 that are not necessary on topic or needed, just to meet the quota.

It makes no sense.

Well, it is 1 video (your own and one minute long, because some people mistakenly consider 10-second GIFs to be comparable to full-fledged videos) or 6 "singular" media pieces, exceptions are made for news articles that have 5 media pieces embedded but then those articles are rarely double-featured on both IndieDB and ModDB.

Yes, first you want to embed only 3 images, then 2, and then only 1... the standard goes down and down... then none at all, because text-based articles are just fine, are they not? Just like it was before when the front page of IndieDB became flooded by authed news (3-4 media pieces) in mere 8 hours. Indie devs were submitting so much news it was hard to get any views, it was so quickly bumped down and off the homepage. Now the situation is reversed, very few articles, yet they stay on substantially longer.

This standard has been up for around one year and a half.

It is important to show all progress made, and dev video logs, diaries and real gameplay footage are the best means to do that. Nobody asks you for 6 screenshots or audio files or whatnots, just for one good video. Videos are multimedia by default, they include audio, visual footage, as well as commentary, so usually presenting more material than one lengthy article with no media embedded at all (unless it is programming related, which is a different matter).

PS Also, fresh media does not mean new actually, the only requirement is that media should not be featured in any previously frontpaged articles on IndieDB (i.e. not reused).

So it was developed as a way to filter the news. Well if you guys think is better. Fair enough tho it only partially fixes it. I saw people posting 6 screenshots of the same 3d model from different angles. Thanks for the info.
