Introduction

Hello everyone!

In this article we will dive a bit more on the Game World and Narrative presented on the Otto's Arv: The Apothecary game.

Game World

The world of the game unfolds as a picturesque landscape set in medieval times, with a charming village (Oakhaven) at its heart. Surrounded by lush greenery and a meandering river, the village thrives amidst the natural beauty. Imposing mountains to the north, south, east, and west create natural boundaries, offering both isolation and protection.

These rugged mountains, with their snow-capped peaks and treacherous passes, add depth to the game, presenting challenges for exploration and strategic gameplay. Within the village, a prominent guild stands as a focal point for quests, trade, and social interaction, drawing adventurers, craftsmen, and traders from all over.

The village itself is laid out in cobblestone streets, simple cottages, and a bustling marketplace, where villagers gather for trade and festivities. Surrounding the village, dense woods hold a wealth of resources, wildlife, and hidden mysteries, inviting players to explore and uncover the region's rich history.

With its balance of natural beauty, challenging terrain, and opportunities for exploration, this world map sets the stage for an immersive open-world single-player medieval game.

Narrative

In the heart of the medieval kingdom of Valoria, nestled amidst rolling hills and lush forests, lay the peaceful village of Greystone. It was here that Otto Leif, a young man in his twenties, had spent his entire life. The village was his home, and its people were his family.

Life in Greystone was simple yet fulfilling. Otto's days were spent tending to the fields alongside his father, learning the ways of the land, and sharing laughter with his friends in the village square. But everything changed when a mysterious illness descended upon Oakridge like a silent plague.

At first, it started with a few cases—a cough here, a fever there. But soon, the sickness spread like wildfire, ravaging the villagers with merciless efficiency. Panic gripped the once-tranquil streets as people fell ill one after another. Otto watched in horror as his neighbors and friends succumbed to the disease, their bodies wasting away before his very eyes.

Desperate for answers, the villagers turned to their rulers for help. In response, the king, fearing the spread of the unknown malady, issued a decree of eradication. Greystone was to be purged, its inhabitants wiped out to prevent the sickness from spreading to neighboring lands.

Otto's heart shattered when he heard the king's decree. His parents, kind and loving souls who had raised him with unwavering care, would also fall victim to this merciless fate. With no time to spare, Otto knew he had to flee.

Under the cover of darkness, Otto stole away from Greystone, his heart heavy with grief and fear. He dared not look back as he raced through the forests, the echoes of his home fading into the night. With each step, he prayed for guidance, for a glimmer of hope in the darkness that now enveloped his world.

For days, Otto wandered the countryside, seeking refuge wherever he could find it. He begged for food, slept beneath the stars, and kept to the shadows, always wary of those who might seek to harm him. But for his relief, part of the suffering was about to get away when he encountered a place that he never had heard of, Oakhaven, a village surrounded by mountains that keeps its population safe from this cruel outside world.

Arriving in Oakhaven with a heavy heart and haunted by memories of loss, Otto resolved to forge a new life for himself amidst the tranquil surroundings of this newfound sanctuary. Determined to honor the memory of his family and help prevent further suffering, Otto turned his focus to the study of herbs and potions, determined to become an apothecary.
