Hi, IndieDB community we are RockSlide.
Welcome to our third article about Stone Age Warriors, our new game.
Today, we are bringing you the second part of our concept art for tribesmen.
Image 1: Cave tribe armor sketches
If you recall from our previous post, we began working on the silhouettes of our tribesmen's armor, and once we chose a silhouette for each, we proceeded to do some iterations in grayscale value to explore the possibilities of armor within the silhouette. At this point, you'll notice that we've done a couple of sets, each more detailed than the last. This is because we worked from large to medium to small in order to avoid getting bogged down in the details too early on.
Image 2: Cave Tribe Armor Iterations
Once again, you'll notice that the lore and shape language we defined for each tribe were kept in mind while designing each character's outfit.
For instance, the Cave tribesman is physically much more robust and stronger, and his overall silhouette resembles both a square, to indicate a strong stance, and an inverted triangle, to indicate power. Apart from that, we kept in mind the materials he'd have available to him in his environment, which would be mostly bones and pelts that he skins from animals he hunts.
Image 3: Riverbay Tribe Armor Iterations
In contrast, the Riverbay Tribe is much more refined and civilized, so when it came to designing this character, we made sure that his design was much more elegant and flowy to emphasize that difference.
This tribe is more pacifist than the Cave Tribe, which was achieved by using a lot of curves in the design of the character, which was kept in mind not only in the design of the armor itself, but also in this tribesman's hairstyle.
After we finished all of the iterations, we chose the ones we thought would work best for our game and drew a more detailed sketch of each one.

Image 5: Tribesmen color studies
With their detailed sketches complete, we moved onto doing color studies, and for that, we kept in mind the colors of paint each of their dyers could make.
That is all I have for you guys today.
Keep an eye out for Part 3 this weekend!
Have a nice week!
